Artist: Woe, Is Me
Album: Genesis
Genre: Metalcore
Rating: 2/5
Favourite Track: “The Walking Dead”

Well, I’m going to be completely honest. When I heard Numbers for the first time, I thought it was pretty awesome. When I heard this record, I felt like I was being punk’d. But hey, I decided to give it another listen. The ball was dropped, that’s all I have to say. There will be people who hate this record, there will be people who love this record, it’s just always going to be that way. But, with the departure of pretty much the entire original lineup in between the last record and this, I feel like that’s where everything went wrong. One person doesn’t make the band, it’s the entire band itself. Every single member brings something to it and although Kevin and Austin are good musicians and Hance is a beast on vocals, I don’t feel like the rest of the members did any justice at all. Still check out the record and see for yourself though, don’t let my personal opinion get in the way.

Artist: Bombay Bicycle Club
Album: A Different Kind of Fix
Genre: Indie/Rock/Folk
Rating: 4/5
Favourite Track: Shuffle

BBC are back to using electric guitars after recording the stripped down “Flaws” record which ironically, was flawless. This record once again proves why they’re one of the most played artists on my iTunes and in my car. Definitely a good folk/rock band to chill out to however they’re extremely underrated. Be sure to check them out if you’re looking for something new to add to your collection, I assure you that you will not be disappointed.

BAND PROMOTION: I recently heard some tracks being passed around via soundcloud,  keep an eye on these guys as well. “The Louder Sounds” (Indie/Folk/Rock)

Artist: Viva Mars
Album: Yes, Indeed, You Are Right, That’s It
Genre: Indie/Rock
Rating: 5/5
Favourite Track: “Some Far Off Place”

Viva Mars are a rock band from my hometown, I first saw them years ago when they participated in a band competition my friend was also in. They won, naturally. I know a lot of local bands that don’t have their act together, but these guys were tight. A few months after that, they had their debut ep “Smile with Viva Mars” released. One full length and a whole lot of shows later, they’re back with a double album. This is the first half, released back in December 2012 with the next due sometime this year. Catchy, poppy indie tunes that will get stuck in your head, choruses that you will find yourself singing at random, inappropriate times, what’s not to love? Go support these guys.

Artist: The Young International
Album: The Young International EP
Genre: Indie/Rock
Rating: 5/5
Favourite Track: Shadowboxing

I stumbled across this band after a late night venture through iTunes looking to spend some gift card money I got a while ago and I have to say, this ep as well as any other song they have out is definitely worth the money. They brought a fresh sound to the indie rock genre and ensure no matter how many times you listen to this record, it will not get old, it will only have you sing along and nod your head at every beat. If I could give this more than 5 stars, I totally would.

Artist: Tyler Hilton
Album: Live In Atlanta
Genre: Pop/Rock/Singer-Songwriter
Rating: 5/5
Favourite Track: “Can’t Stop Now”

Many of you probably know him as Chris Keller from the show One Tree Hill. Tyler Hilton can do more than just act, though. After returning to the series last year to finish off the final season, he released his first studio album after 8 years titled “Forget the Storm” and has now just released a live version of his performance in Atlanta featuring a new song ‘California’, some older stuff and the majority of the new record. If you’ve got some iTunes money left over from Christmas, I’d suggest picking this one up.

Artist: The Maine
Album: Good Love: The Pioneer B-Sides
Genre: Indie/Pop/Rock
Rating: 5/5
Favourite Track: “Take Me Dancing”

The Maine have come a long way since their first full length (Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop) and every record they make sure of one thing, they never fail to disappoint. This EP is made up of songs that didn’t make it onto their last record Pioneer and they wanted to make sure the fans heard it. Definitely a must have for any fan of this band.
